Name: William R. Fort, Sr. Date: July 16th, 1924 - August 23rd, 2009 Obituary: William R. Fort, Sr. of Lumberton died Sunday, August 23, 2009 at the Virtua Health and Rehab. Center in Lumberton. He was 85. Born in Springfield Twp., NJ, Mr. Fort was a longtime Lumberton resident. He was a US Coast Guard Veteran of WW II and was a retired Station Captain at McGuire Air Force Base for their Crash and Fire Rescue Department. Mr. Fort was also very active with the Lumberton Fire Department where he was a Life Member. He was also a member of the NJ Exempt Fireman’s Association, Burlington County Relief Association, President of the Lumberton Relief Association, Treasurer of the Lumberton Exempt Association and a member of the American Legion Post #11, Mt. Holly. Predeceased by his wife Anna B. Fort, he is survived by 3 children and their spouses: son & daughter-in-law W. Robert, Jr. & Diane Fort of Lumberton; daughter & son-in-law Grace Ann & George Swain of Lumberton; daughter & son-in-law Joan & Bruce Sleeper of Lumberton; 3 grandchildren: John Swain of Lumberton, Valarie (Sean) Osworth of Cherry Hill; and Hilarie Sleeper of Havertown, PA. He is also survived by a sister Edith Watts of Florida. He was the sister of the late Joanne Baldwin. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 AM at the Perinchief Chapels, 438 High St., Mt. Holly. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery.
