Obituary:
On February 11, 2010 Edythe Rebecca Shinn Calland went home to be with her Lord and Savior. Her lifetime scripture verse was found in Deuteronomy 13:6. “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” This gave her comfort during her lifetime. Edythe was born in Rancocas on May 19, 1916 and lived in the Rancocas area until 2001 when she moved to Easton, PA with her daughter and son-in-law. She was an active member of the Rancocas Methodist Church for 75 years, teaching Sunday School and Bible School for 50 years. Edythe was a 4H leader, WCTU member, PTA member and President, and volunteered to make the best candied sweet potatoes for the Rancocas Firehouse Dinners. During her working years she was a secretary for the TB League in Burlington, also engineers at RCA in Cherry Hill, and then worked for the Willingboro School System setting up the offices in the new schools. After the schools were opened she went to work as the secretary for the Business Administrator for 22 years before retiring in 1983. Edythe’s hobbies were reading, decorating for special occasions, painting on wood and oils on canvas, crafts, and helping her family and anyone else who needed a hand. She was a loving wife to Edward G. Calland, who preceded her in death in 2000. They were married 64 years. Edythe is survived by two daughters, Sandra Gentry and her husband Kenneth of Hurlock, MD and Carol Lamb and her husband Frank of Williams Twp., PA. She also has six married grandchildren, Kenneth Gentry Jr. and Holly, John Gentry and Lisa, Edward Lamb and Dr. Elizabeth, Lynn Gentry Farr and Jeffrey, Michael Lamb and Taryn, and Laura Lamb Botwin and Andrew. Edythe lived to welcome 15 great-grandchildren, David, Jessica, Grayson, and James Gentry, Cody, Ryan, Abby and Macy Lynn Farr, Althea, Kyla, Payce, Timothy and Dashl Lamb, Jack and Hunter Botwin. Also surviving are Edythe’s sister, Ruth Potter of Annapolis, her brother Roy and his wife Betty of Glens Falls, NY and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held 2 pm Saturday, February 20th at the Perinchief Chapels, 438 High St. Mt. Holly. Interment will be private. Friends may call on Saturday at the funeral home from 12pm until time of service.
