Anthony J. Cristoforo of Lumberton died Sunday April 4th, 2010 at Medford Leas in Medford after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 75. He was born and raised in Burlington, graduating as valedictorian from Burlington High School in 1952. He received BA degree from Johns Hopkins University in 1956 and a Doctor of Medicine from Temple University in 1960. After an internship at Philadelphia General Hospital and Military Service as an Aviation Medical Officer in the US Army, he returned to Temple for residency training in Internal Medicine and Rheumatology. He practiced medicine with Moorestown Medical Associates and Moorestown Internal Medicine until retiring on March 31, 2000. He was voted best physician by readers of the Burlington County Times in 1995. He and his family lived in Burlington Twp. until 2000. He served for three years on the Burlington Twp. Board of Education and was board president for 2 years.
He was a member of the Friends of the Burlington County Library, Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, Burlington Country Club, the Medical Society and a past member of the Red Dragon Canoe Club. He was predeceased by his parents, Antonio and Santina Cristoforo, a brother Felix and a sister Catherine Littleford. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Barbara (nee Kite); two sons: Steven L. (Caroline) of Slidell , LA, Andrew (Christine) of Patchogue, NY ; two daughters, Nancy Cristoforo MD and her husband Jonathan Bellush of Sayreville, NJ and Carol Irons and her husband Timothy of Lumberton. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Anthony, Lauren, Timmy, Nicholas and Logan; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday at 2:30PM at the Perinchief Chapels, 438 High Street, Mount Holly. Interment will be private. Friends may call from 12:30-2:30PM at the funeral home.
