Cheryl Ames

After a brief battle with peritoneal cancer, Cheryl Ames passed peacefully from her home in Florence to her home in Heaven on September 9, 2023, at the age of 79. Born on April 24, 1944, she was raised in Pemberton and was a 1962 graduate of Pemberton Township High School. She married the love of her life, David Ames, in July of 1962. She worked for a short time as a bank teller but quickly transitioned to a homemaker after the birth of her children. She embraced and cherished her role of mother, providing Biblical instruction, love, and discipline. Her nurturing continued after her children were grown. For more than 30 years, she provided childcare in her home, pouring her heart into their lives, as she had done for her own children. Ever a teacher with a heart for children, Cheryl taught the importance of God’s love to the youngest ones. She was a charter member of Calvary Baptist Church in Pemberton, NJ. Although she held positions of treasurer and deaconess at the church, she viewed her number one role in life as being someone who reflected the love of Jesus to everyone she met. She served her Savior through selfless acts of service. She loved baking cakes, and if she knew your birthday, there was a good chance you would get a unique cake for your special day. She is survived by her beloved husband of 61 years, David; her three sisters and a brother: Irene Daniels (Doug), Wanda Denney, Joyce Rife (Wayne), and Larry Denney (Janet); her three daughters: April Eckart (Everett), Dale Dixon (Robert), and Sandra Barrett (Albert); and four grandchildren: Kristina King (Anthony), Forrest Dixon, Kaitlynne Yos (Adriel), and E. Neil Eckart III; and two great-grandchildren: Talon King and Aidalynne Yos. She was also survived by her close friend, Marge Jackson. Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert J Denney and Audrey M (Wilson) Denney, as well as her brother, Herbert Denney Jr. A private graveside service was held at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Florence, NJ. A time of visitation with the family will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at Calvary Baptist Church, 7 Scrapetown Road, Pemberton, NJ. A Memorial Service will be held after visitation at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Cheryl’s name to support Guatemalan missions through Calvary Baptist Church
