Charles H. Hofmann

Charles “Charlie” Henry Hofmann, of Jobstown, NJ, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family. Born in Bergenfield, NJ, on October 4, 1943, to Maurice and Erna Augusta (Kronenberg) Hofmann, Charlie was the beloved older brother of the late John Maurice Hofmann and is survived by his brother, Howard Hofmann of Jamestown, Rhode Island. Charles was a devout Catholic whose faith guided his life. He lived with integrity and kindness. His quiet strength and unwavering faith were evident to all who knew him. Every weekend you could find him at St. Andrew’s Church for mass. Charlie shared 55 wonderful years of marriage with his wife, Elise (Cauley) Hofmann. Together, they built a life grounded in hard work, and a shared love and passion for Arabian horses. For over four decades, they proudly ran a horse farm in Jobstown, where they trained, showed, and cared for their beloved animals. He was a loving father to his daughter, Kristin Cauley Hofmann, and proud father-in-law to Kyle Philip Asbrand of Chesterfield, NJ. Charlie worked for Conrail for 40 years, a loyal and steadfast employee. But his true joy came from his time with horses and in the simple pleasures of life: a strong cup of coffee, coffee ice cream, Ro’s chocolate chip cookies, and a good donut from Wawa or Dunkin’. He enjoyed his summers every year in Lake George, NY where the view is beautiful and Saratoga Racetrack is nearby. A lifelong fan of Mets baseball and a lover of horse racing, Charlie never missed a chance to place a bet or cheer from the sidelines. Nicknamed the “Marlboro Man,” he was a quiet presence, but his quick-witted one-liners left lasting impressions. He had a sharp sense of humor—fart jokes especially brought him joy—and when he truly laughed, his eyes would twinkle with delight. Visitation will be from 9:00 am - 11:00 am at St. Andrew’s Church and will be immediately followed by a Catholic Mass at 11:00 am.
