Charles P Rue

Charles P. Rue of Jobstown, passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2019 at the age of 89 at his home with his family by his side. A lifelong resident of Springfield Twp, he graduated from Pemberton High School in 1948, married Dorothy in March of 1951. He soon became a member of the Springfield Twp. Fire Co #1 in Jobstown where he served for 30 years as a line officer, & Fire Chief & Treasurer. He actively participated in all fundraising activities and served as Fund Drive Chairman for several years. He built his home in 1964 where he resided throughout his life. He served 6 years on the local school board and his proudest achievement was his involvement in the baseball recreation programs for both boys and girls. Charlie managed & coached for 9 years, and in later years umpired & maintained all playing fields. He retired from the recreation committee in 1997 with 30 years of service. Charlie was often referred to as “Mr. Springfield,” know for his great sense of humor & believed that “laughter is the best medicine.” His career consisted of Jones Plumbing & Heating for 10 years, & later became Postmaster of Jobstown in December of 1961 where he remained until his retirement in March 2001. The original office was located in his home on Rt. 537. Due to the growth of the community he requested a larger office. Six years later, his goal was finally achieved. Charlie hopes this office can always remain part of the community. Charlie wants to be remembered as a fair and caring person as he strove to be to everyone in his life. His last words to everyone are, “I am very proud of my family and all they’ve accomplished in their lives” and “I always tried to be my best, now its time for me to rest.” He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Dorothy; children: Raymond (Marilyn), Carol (Steve), Wayne (Aileen), Joyce (Rob); grandchildren: Steven, Keith (Heather), Michael (Christie), Janice (Kyle), Allisun; great-grandchildren: Ryan, Amber, Tori, Kyle, Austin, Breanna, Gavin. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday at 11:00 AM at the Perinchief Chapels, 438 High St., Mount Holly. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday evening from 6-8 pm and Thursday morning from 10-11am at the Funeral Home.
