Dolores Marie Hoyer

Dolores Marie (Kasakitis) Hoyer, age 101, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2026. Born on May 24, 1925, in Girardville, PA. Dolores lived a remarkable life defined by service, adventure, devotion to family and an enduring curiosity about the world. Dolores was the beloved daughter of James Kasakitis and Catherine (Krick) Kasakitis. A gifted student, she graduated as Valedictorian of the Girardville High School Class of 1942, demonstrating the intelligence, determination and work ethic that would serve her throughout her life. Following high school, Dolores embarked on a path that reflected both her patriotism and adventurous spirit. In 1947, she joined the US Civil Service, serving the US Air Attaché in Germany, during the post-World War II occupation. Her employment abroad introduced her to cultures and experiences far beyond her coal-region hometown. She later supported the US Embassy in Tokyo, Japan, in the early 1950s. It was there that she met her future husband, William "Bill" Hoyer, who was serving in the US Army. Dolores and Bill were married in August 1955, sharing a love for international travel and culture. From 1956 to 1960, while Bill attended Georgetown University under the GI Bill, Dolores worked in Washington, DC, as a secretary for a prominent labor organization. In 1960, the couple returned to Germany, when Bill accepted a position with the American Red Cross. Their growing family began there in 1963, before returning stateside in 1965 and settling in Mount Holly, NJ, where Dolores devoted herself to raising their three children. A dedicated wife, mother and community member, Dolores was actively involved in the Sacred Heart Church and School community, generously giving her time through the Parent-Teacher Association and as a rectory secretary. She created a loving and nurturing home dedicated to her family and lifelong learning. As a young woman, Dolores enjoyed playing both the piano and violin, and was a varsity athlete in multiple sports. She possessed a remarkable gift for languages and spoke multiple languages during her years overseas. Her international experiences fostered an enduring sense of travel and adventure that remained with her to the very end. She always had an exciting story to share about her travel adventures and experiences overseas. Dolores was preceded in death by her husband, William Hoyer; her parents, James and Catherine Kasakitis; her brother, Theodore Kasakitis; her sister-in-law, Leona Kasakitis; and her nephew, James Kasakitis, along with her special friend of 67 years, Barbara Allinson. She is lovingly survived by her three children: • Kathie (Hoyer) Roberts and her husband, Raymond Roberts, of Montgomery Village, MD, and their children Melanie, Shannon and Nathan Roberts • Jon Hoyer and his wife, Gabrielle, of Sicklerville, NJ, and their children Nicholas and Matthew Hoyer • Lynn Hoyer of Mount Holly, NJ She also leaves behind her nephews David Kasakitis and Steven Kasakitis, her niece Ann Kasakitis, and their families, along with many lifelong friends and loved ones whose lives were enriched by her kindness, wisdom and warmth. Dolores will be remembered as a trailblazer whose life journey took her from a small Pennsylvania town around the world and beyond. She embraced every chapter with curiosity and optimism, supporting her family, and building lasting friendships wherever she lived. In lieu of donations and flowers, those who knew and loved Dolores are encouraged to honor her memory by carrying forward the spirit of adventure that guided her through 101 remarkable years. Take a journey, explore somewhere new, experience the world with curiosity, and allow those experiences to broaden your horizons, just as Dolores did throughout her extraordinary life. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, August 21, 2026, at 11am at Sacred Heart Church, 260 High Street, Mount Holly, NJ. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, August 20, 2026, from 6-8pm at the Perinchief Chapels, 438 High Street, Mount Holly or Friday morning at 10:30am at the Church. Formal attire is not necessary; casual dress is welcome. All are invited and encouraged to attend a celebration of life reception at O’Connors American Bar & Grille (Banquet Hall), 1383 Monmouth Road, Eastampton, NJ, starting around 12:15-12:30pm.
