Dorothy "Dot" Green

Deeply beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, godmother, friend, and school bus driver Dorothy “Dot” Gardner Green, of Pemberton, NJ, born August 18, 1947, passed away unexpectedly on July 13, 2016. Daughter of the late Maj. William C. Gardner and the late Ruth Gardner, and late step-mother Jimmie Fay Gardner, Dorothy was born in Yokahama, Japan, and raised in Browns Mills, NJ. Dot met the love of her life, Toby Green, while snowed in at a friend’s wedding. They fell in love, were married on March 2, 1967, and made their home in Pemberton, where they raised their eldest daughter, Kelly, and their Burlington County “record breaking” 18 lb. twins Kevin and Kimberly. Dot was recently retired after 35 years of driving “Bus 66” for Pemberton Township Schools, a job she adored. She considered her responsibility as the “first smile, and maybe the last smile they see every day” as a personal mission, including the big yellow smiley face she placed on the front of her bus. She took great pride in the time she spent with the children on her bus routes, and loved her Pemberton Hornets. Dot enjoyed gardening with Toby in their beautiful yard, “Green Acre”, and cherished the time she was able to spend with her beloved granddaughters, Devin and Delaney. Dot loved her Bunco girls, riding bicycles with Toby and her friends, playing tennis, and kayaking on Mirror Lake. She loved her Grace Episcopal Church and her God, America and all things red white and blue, strawberries, smiley faces, her sweet Dixie dog, and her happily chirping parakeets. Dot spread love everywhere she went with her light-up-the-room smile, and enjoyed hosting family and friends in her famous “Strawberry Kitchen.” One of her signatures was making sure to give people she encountered (tips to waiters, especially) one of her origami dollar bill bow ties, just to let them know how much she appreciated them. Her memory will be a lasting reminder to all who knew her to cherish and hold dear the simple things in life: family, friends, nature, and our beautiful America and all it stands for. Dorothy is survived by her beloved husband and best friend, Toby Green; her daughter, Kelly Green Sowers and husband Jeffrey Sowers; her son, Kevin Green; daughter Kimberly (Green) Kaeser and two granddaughters, Devin Kaeser and Delaney Kaeser; brother Roger Gardner and wife Kaaren, and daughters Tamara, and Meghan; brother George Gardner and wife Nancy, and three sons Adam, Joshua and Gabriel; and Sister-In-Love Marcy (Green) Korson and husband Bill Korson, and daughter Kate. She was the sister of the late William Charles Gardner, Jr. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, July 19, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Grace Episcopal Church, 43 Elizabeth St., Pemberton, NJ 08068. Friends may visit with the family on Monday from 4-8 PM at the Perinchief Chapels, 438 High St., Mount Holly. Interment will be in the Odd Fellows Cemetery, Pemberton Twp.
