Earl H. Rue

Earl H. Rue, age 98, of the Jobstown section of Springfield Twp., died peacefully at his home on Wednesday, June 21, 2023. Born in Juliustown, N.J. he was a life long resident of Springfield Twp. As a young man, he enjoyed working with his father on their dairy farm. For recreation, Earl enjoyed playing the catcher for several local baseball teams. He bought a motorcycle and took many trips with his friends to places like Florida and Niagara Falls. Earl loved farming and started at age 12 working on the dairy farm. He continued to be a farmer for roughly 55 years. After retiring from farming, he went onto work as a custodian for the Northern Burlington County Regional High School in Columbus for several years before he retired from that position. He was very community minded and stayed active. He was a long-time member at the Columbus Grange including serving as the grand marshal at the Grange. Earl had been the past president of the Springfield Twp. Board of Education. He had the position of Deacon and taught Sunday school at the Columbus Baptist Church. After Earl retired, he loved to ride his bike a lot. He enjoyed reading books and kept track of all the book titles he had read. He loved his vegetable gardens and was generous with keeping at least 11 local families stocked with lots of food. Earl loved caring for his rose bushes and was proud of his rose garden as well as his vegetable gardens. He was pre-deceased by his wife, Jane, who passed away in 1994. He was also pre-deceased by a brother, Harry F. Rue and a grandson, Todd Scott. Earl is survived by his daughters, Donna Rue and Lois Scott and husband Cliff Scott, a son, Paul Rue, a sister, Gladys Rue Kleinknecht and a grandson, Collin Scott. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 27th at Perinchief Chapels, 438 High Street, Mount Holly, N.J. The interment will follow at the Upper Springfield Twp. Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his memory may be made to the Samaritan Hospice at Samaritan Gift Processing Center PO Box 71425 Philadelphia, PA 19176-1425.
