Edwin W. Townsend

Edwin W. Townsend, 75, of Westampton, passed away peacefully Sunday, November 23, 2014, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. A life- long NJ resident, he was born July 5, 1939 in Mt Holly, educated at Rider College and served in the NJ National Guard. He enjoyed summers on Long Beach Island and escaping to Miromar Lakes, FL for the winter. Ed had many professional accomplishments, including co-owning Stevenson Lumber until retirement in 1999, and adjacent investments including residential & commercial land development along the East Coast. Ed served in a number of leadership roles in industry & the community. These included Chairman of BMJ Financial Corporation, Chairman of the Bank of Mid-Jersey, Director of Mt Holly State Bank & serving as Burlington County Jury Commissioner. Above all, Ed was dedicated to his family. Married for over 48 years to the love of his life, Carol. He was home for lunch most days and always there for dinner with their two children. He enjoyed watching backyard wildlife with his wife, talking sports with his son, having coffee with his daughter and playing games with his grandchildren. He was a sundae connoisseur and enjoyed Carol's root beer floats. Other interests included woodworking, furniture & guitar making, collecting antique toy trucks and refinishing antique business machines. In addition to his wife, Ed is survived by a daughter, Joie & her partner Steven Kandarian of Summit, NJ; a son, Ed Jr, his wife Bonnie and grandchildren Carolyn & Luke of McAllen, TX; niece Sandra of Marlton; nephew Craig of Westampton; and nephew Tim Brown and his wife Hilary of Dana Point, CA. He is preceded in death by his parents, Beatrice & Clifford of Columbus; and brother Robert & wife Jeanne of Columbus. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 AM at the Perinchief Chapels, 438 High St., Mount Holly. Relatives and Friends may visit with the family on Friday evening from 4-7 PM at the Funeral Home. Burial will be private. Memorial contributions may be made in Ed's honor to the Damon Runyon Cancer Research Fund, One Exchange Plaza, 55 Broadway Suite 302, New York, NY 10006.
