Elroy A. White

Elroy A. White, affectionately known as Roy, was born on September 7, 1932, in West Coast Berbice, Guyana, South America, to the late Irene Elizabeth George (née Stephens) and William Alfred White ("Alfred"). Roy dedicated his life to the service of others through a distinguished career in nursing. He began as a Registered Nurse at New Amsterdam Hospital in New Amsterdam, Berbice, Guyana. In 1961, he emigrated from Guyana to the United States through a nursing sponsorship program with Newark Beth Israel Hospital in Newark, New Jersey, where he faithfully served until 1969. He continued his nursing career at United Hospital-Crippled Children's Hospital in Newark, New Jersey, before later serving at Muhlenberg Hospital in Plainfield, New Jersey, and Rahway Hospital in Rahway, New Jersey until his retirement in 1996. Throughout more than three decades in healthcare, Roy was known for his dedication, compassion, and unwavering commitment to caring for his patients. A firm believer in the value of education, Roy attended Fordham University in the Bronx, New York, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1974—a testament to his perseverance and lifelong pursuit of personal growth. By making the courageous decision to leave his homeland of Guyana and build a new life in the United States, Roy created opportunities for future generations of his lineage. Through his sacrifices, steadfast work ethic, and commitment to education, he laid a foundation upon which his children and grandchildren would continue to build, creating a legacy of education, service, and perseverance that continues today. Roy was predeceased by his second-born daughter, Kristyn White and his younger brother Reggie White. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Vana White (née Pierre); his children, Stephen White, Sharyn Morales (née White), and Helyn Williams (née White); his son-in-law, Anthony Williams Ir.; and his cherished grandchildren, Jaelin ("Tae"), Christopher ("Chris"), Jazlyn ("Jazzy"), and Lyndon. He is also remembered by siblings, Hermaine Oree (née White), Orin White, and Anis White; his lifelong friends, Vincent and Brenda Loncke; The extended White family; The Stephens family; The Pierre family: The Loncke family: The Oree family; The Angus family; and many extended relatives and friends. Roy's legacy lives on through the family he loved, the patients he cared for, and the countless lives he touched with his compassion, resilience, and unwavering dedication. May his memory continue to inspire all who knew him, loved him, and were blessed by his life.
