James "Buddy" A. Miller Jr.

James (Buddy) Miller passed peacefully into the arms of his maker on May 23, 2025, in the loving company of his family and best friend, following a fierce battle with aggressive cancer. Known for his intelligence, wisdom, kindness, devotion to family, civic service, and the best Super Bowl parties anywhere, Bud will be fondly remembered as a man who wore many hats well and would do anything for friends, which were legion. Born in Mount Holly, New Jersey on June 22, 1955, to Dr. James Anthony and Lorraine Miller, Bud was the third of four boys and the most high-spirited of them all. A graduate of Doane Academy in Burlington, New Jersey and Rancocas Valley Regional High School in Mount Holly New Jersey, Bud attended Rogers Williams University in Bristol Rhode Island and earned a Bachelor of Sciences degree in 1981. On November 9, 1985, he married the love of his life Mary Ellen Lounsberry, a dedicated lifelong elementary school educator, now retired. Following diverse early excursions into the work force, Bud found his niche in computer science and for the past eighteen years was Network Engineer and Consultant with Acteon North America. As highly skilled and respected as he was, work often seemed secondary to his myriad passions and pursuits: boating, snow and water skiing, off-roading, travel throughout the tropics, his dogs, the Phillies and Eagles, his church, his community, and most of all his Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. Bud was a lifelong Episcopalian at St. Andrews Church, where he sang in the choir for decades and served on Vestry and as Delegate to Diocesan Convention for fourteen consecutive years. Like his civic-minded father, when Bud lived in Mount Holly, he served on its planning board and zoning board. When he and Mary moved to Lumberton he was elected to Town Council. But for nearly three decades, Bud was utterly devoted to the Mount Holly Elks, serving in every one of its offices, twice as Exalted Ruler, as well as the District Deputy and New Jersey State Chaplain. He and Mary traveled the state and country bearing the standard of its patriotic and charitable services. Bud Miller is survived by his adoring and devoted wife Mary Lounsberry Miller, by his brothers and sisters-in-law David A. and Ann Marie Miller, Robert A. and Patti V. Miller, and Dr. Gary A. and Wen Miller; by his mother-in-law Patricia Lounsberry, brother-in-law Earl Lounsberry, and sisters-in-law Theresa Hoffman and Patricia Carrera, and by fourteen nieces and nephews and twelve grand-nieces and nephews. Visiting hours at Perinchief Chapels, 438 High Street, Mount Holly, New Jersey, 08060 are set for 4-7 PM on Sunday June 1. A Service of Christian Burial and Mass will be observed at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 121 High Street in Mount Holly, on Monday June 2, beginning at 11:00 AM, to be followed by a luncheon across the street at…where else…the Elks. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the American Cancer Society. Tonight and as long as there are Elks on earth, at 11:00 PM, the “Hour of Recollection,” Bud will be remembered along with all deceased Elks, by the stroke of eleven bells and the sacred words he himself so often spoke, “Living or dead, Elks are never forgotten, never forsaken. Morning and noon may pass them by, the light of day sink heedlessly in the West, but ere the shadows of midnight shall fall, the chimes of memory will be pealing forth the friendly message: “To Our Absent Members."
