Jeffrey M. Scozzafava

It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Jeffrey Michael Scozzafava, on July 26, 2026, at his residence in Rancocas New Jersey. He was only 61 years old. Jeff is survived and missed by his loving wife Frances (née Dunfee) of 20 years; and his son, Alexander James. His father William Scozzafava, his mother Olga Scozzafava, his brothers Dominic (Roxanne) Scozzafava, David (Sarah) Scozzafava, sister-in-law Sara Flamm, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, friends, coworkers, NJSP brothers and sisters, the Rancocas community family and his faithful canine companion “Max”. Jeff dedicated more than forty years of his life to the service of others. His career began in the United States Army, where he proudly served as a Military Police Officer. He later joined the New Jersey State Police, serving with distinction as a Crime Scene Detective before retiring after twenty years of honorable service. Retirement was simply another chapter in his lifelong pursuit of justice, as he continued his work as a Crime Scene Detective with the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office. Recognized as one of the foremost experts in forensic science and bloodstain pattern analysis, Jeff was a respected member of the International Association of Bloodstain Pattern Analysts, serving as its President from 2016 to 2017. His reputation extended well beyond New Jersey. Through the United States Department of Justice, he traveled to Turkmenistan, where he co-instructed law enforcement professionals in modern crime scene investigation and forensic techniques. Most recently, Jeff continued serving the people of New Jersey as an Investigator with the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General's Insurance Fraud Division. Although his professional accomplishments were remarkable, they were only one part of the man he was. Jeff was, above all else, a devoted husband whose greatest labor of love became the meticulous restoration of his wife's family home. A gifted self-taught restoration craftsman, he embraced the enormous challenge of preserving its authenticity with extraordinary patience, precision, and respect for history. Every project reflected his belief that things worth saving deserved to be restored with care. Even after completing one undertaking, Jeff was never content to sit still—there was always another project waiting, another idea taking shape, another improvement to be made. An avid photographer, Jeff possessed a remarkable eye for beauty and detail. Whether capturing sweeping landscapes, historic architecture, or quiet moments in nature, he found joy behind the camera and shared that perspective with those around him. Nothing, however, brought Jeff greater happiness than his family. He was immensely proud of his son and found tremendous joy watching him grow into a fine young man. Whether encouraging his son's interests, helping him develop new skills, or simply spending time together, Jeff was a constant source of guidance, and unconditional love. Around the historic village he proudly called home, Jeff was a familiar and beloved figure. Rarely seen without his faithful canine companion, Max, at his side, he greeted neighbors with a warm smile and friendly hello during their daily walks. His love for his community extended far beyond admiration. He became one of its quiet guardians, embracing the nearly 350-year-old village with the same sense of responsibility that had defined his law enforcement career. He believed deeply that preserving history also meant protecting the people and places that made it special. Though his passing came far too soon, his influence lives on in the family he adored, the friends who will forever miss him, the colleagues he mentored, the historic home he lovingly restored, the community he faithfully protected, and the countless lives he made better simply by being part of them. Jeff's life was one of purpose and integrity. His passing leaves an immeasurable void in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. Jeff will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered. There will be a gathering of family and friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, August 7, 2026 at the Perinchief Chapels, 438 High Street, Mount Holly, N.J. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 8, 2026 at the Friends Meeting House at Rancocas, 201 Main Street, Rancocas, N.J. "Well done, good and faithful servant."
