John Baron, Jr.

John W. Baron, Jr. died on July 16, 2016 in Mount Holly, NJ. He was born in Allentown, NJ and spent his early years in Monroe Township, NJ. In 1949, his family moved to Perth Amboy, NJ, where John lived until marrying his wife, Evelyn in 1969. The couple settled in Somerset, NJ in 1974 and remained there until retiring to Springfield Township, Burlington County, NJ in 2005. As an only child, John’s extended family was very important to him. He was close to his aunts and uncles and grew up with many cousins who were like siblings to him. John loved anything with a motor and wheels. In his younger years, he raced stock cars locally in Central Jersey and later was the mechanic on a sprint car that was raced in the Midwest. In later years, he and his friends enjoyed motorcycle rides all over New Jersey scenic areas from the Watchung Mountains to the shore, as well as longer trips everywhere from Nova Scotia to Florida, and his longest bike trip to South Dakota for the annual Harley rally in Sturgis. John was a member of Teamsters Local 701 and, in spite of driving all week long in his job, never tired of being behind the wheel. Over the years, he and his wife traveled, on four wheels, throughout the U.S., and from Prince Edward Island to Key West, and from the Atlantic to the Pacific with several trips to the Southwest, through numerous National Parks, forests, and historical areas. He and Evelyn traveled many summers with dear friends they came to know through the Franklin High School Band Parents’ Association. They also held 50-yard line season tickets to Rutgers Football home games for many years. When John wasn’t out and about traveling or tolerating Evelyn’s passion for Rutgers football, he was often planted on the couch watching NASCAR, Indy car racing, crime dramas, or, oddly, tennis. He had a penchant for day trips down the shore in search of tasty seafood dinners and taught his daughter the gustatory delights of lobster, king crab, shrimp, drawn butter, and wicked hot cocktail sauce at a very young age, thereby ensuring he would forever have an enthusiastic dining companion. John was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2007 and suffered several hip and back injuries in recent years, severely limiting his activities. He was predeceased by his father John Sr. and his beloved stepmother Mary. He is survived by his wife Evelyn, daughter Maria and her husband Mike Duffy, and their son DJ, all of Burlington, NJ. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the caring and devoted staff of Samaritan Hospice at Virtua in Mount Holly. Relatives and Friends may attend his visitations on Wednesday evening from 3-5 and 7-9 PM and on Thursday morning from 9-10 AM at the Perinchief Chapels, 438 High St., Mount Holly, NJ. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 AM at the Sacred Heart Church, 260 High St., Mount Holly. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick.
