Joseph A. Jones

Joseph A. Jones passed away Sunday, August 24, 2014. He was 88. Joe left this world surrounded by his loving family in the Hainesport home that he built with his own hands in 1955. Joe grew up in Mount Holly, where he attended Rancocas Valley Regional High School before being drafted to serve in the U.S. Army 87th Infantry Division in World War II. He fought at the Battle of the Bulge, where he was captured and became a Prisoner of War in Limburg Germany. Remarkably, he was liberated by General Patton’s Third Army in March 1945. When Joe returned from the war, he married his high school sweetheart, Mary Lou. Together, they celebrated 57 years of marriage during which they were blessed to raise three children, Gary, Glenalee, and Patrick. Joe was an ambitious self-taught bricklayer and carpenter who went on to become a successful masonry contractor. As the owner of Jones Masonry, his career was spent building many beautiful homes and commercial buildings throughout the region. He was proud to be a member of the Bricklayers Local 5 of Bordentown. An avid hunter, Joe enjoyed spending time goose and duck hunting with his buddies in Maryland. He also loved fishing on the Delaware Bay. During the summer, Joe enjoyed spending time with the family at his in-law’s shore home in West Wildwood. While Joe may be gone, we are comforted to know that we are sure to drive past his sturdy and well-built brick creations, which will remind us of this strong man in our lives. Husband of the late Mary Lou Jones; father of the late Patrick Jones and Gary Jones; and grandfather of the late Duane Kensler, he is survived by his daughter, Glenalee Kensler (David); his daughter-in-law, Carol Jones; his granddaughters, Melissa Walsh (David), Carly Jones, and Ashley Jones; his grandsons, Gregory Jones (Susan) and Ryan Jones; his grand-daughter in-law, Tammie Kensler; his great-grandchildren; Sarah, Joe, Courtney, and Dylan Kensler, and Ava and Chloe Walsh; his sisters, Evelyn Shemelia and Dorothy Clatts; his brother, Leon Jones (Althea); his brother-in-law, Larry Schafle; his sister-in-law, Mary Schafle; his friend and care-giver, Joy Imade; as well as many other loving relatives and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am, Friday at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, 1701 Marne Hwy, Hainesport. Friends and relatives may visit with the family from 6 pm until 8:00 pm Thursday at the Perinchief Chapels, 438 High St., Mt. Holly. Memorial gifts in Joe’s memory may be sent to Samaritan Hospice, 5 Eves Drive, Suite 300, Marlton, NJ 08053 in honor of the wonderful care they provided to the family.
