Mark Edward Hood

Mark Edward Hood, 61, of Lumberton, NJ, passed away on September 17, 2023. Mark was a giant of a man with a heart to match. He was a caring and loving individual who touched the lives of many. Mark was an angel that walked among mortals, always willing to lend a helping hand to family, friends, and even strangers. Born on April 6, 1962, in Gainesville, FL, Mark grew up in a loving family. His family moved to New Jersey in 1970. Mark was pre-deceased by his father, Frank Hood, in 2015. He is survived by his devoted wife of 36 years, Kathy Dempster-Hood, and his mother, Sue Hood, of Burlington, NJ. Mark is also survived by his siblings Margie and Carl Ruzicka of Newtown, PA, Matt and Linda Hood of Huntersville, NC, Mary and Greg Byrne of Burlington, NJ, Melanie and Dave Heminghaus of Barnegat, NJ. He is also survived by his stepsons, Bill Dempster and wife Jayme, and Stephen Dempster. He was a beloved grandfather to his grandchildren Madison, Liam and Dane and a devoted uncle to his nieces, and nephews. Mark is also survived by his countless friends who cherished his presence. Mark graduated from Willingboro High School in the Class of 1980. After completing his education, Mark worked at the Burlington County Times for 28 years. He then enjoyed a long career as a truck driver. In his free time, Mark was an avid sports fan. He knew so much about every pro sports team. He could talk for hours about football, baseball, or basketball. He had a deep love for the Dallas Cowboys and was a big fan for almost 55 years. Mark also followed the Philadelphia Phillies, Sixers and Flyers. He had a passion for music, which brought him immense joy throughout his life. He loved going to concerts to see big rock stars or local bars to see up and coming bands. He owned hundreds of albums that he loved listening to, using his turntable on his stereo system he set up in his garage. Mark Hood will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His kindness, love, and generous spirit will forever be remembered. Even after his death, he continues to help others by being an organ donor. May he rest in peace. A viewing will be held in honor of Mark at Perinchief Chapels, 438 High St. in Mt Holly, NJ on Friday September 29th from 6pm to 8pm.
