Robert E Holmes

Robert Eldridge Holmes, of Springfield Township, passed peacefully March 16, 2015, surrounded by his loving family. He was 87 years old. Bob also known as Ace, or Fender Bender, was self-employed and an artist in his work. Holmes’ Auto Body was known for expert repair and painting. He could disassemble anything and “fix-it”…A master in tinkering! Bob was a cowboy at heart and anyone who knew him, knew that blue jeans, a cowboy shirt and his boots were his everyday attire. Bob never missed his “coffee-breaks” each and every day. 10am at the diner with all his buddies….a circle of friends that spanned a life time. Bob was born in Hamilton, NJ. Predeceased by his loving wife, Irene Edith (Perry) Holmes, daughter-in-law Brenda J. Holmes, son-in-law Mike “Spike” Bevan, his mother, Pauline Keller, sister, Iris Sharpe, and brother Wendell James. He is survived by his children, Robert (Bobby) Holmes, Dawn Bevan, Theodore Holmes, Cheryl Cochran and husband Rich Cochran. His grandchildren, Robby Holmes, Steve Holmes, Tara Heade and husband Billy Heade, Michael Cochran and wife Nicole Cochran, Brandon Johnson, Katy Lindsay and husband Ian Lindsay, Tom Bevan, and Chrissy Cochran. Great grandchildren Molly, Hannah, & Stevie Holmes, and Scott Jerden. His sister Patricia Cummings of Columbus, NJ, also Lisa Beltran a fun, loving caregiver. Ornery and full of great expressions, Bob was a simple man. He would no sooner arrive, and be ready to leave. His “Dad-isms” will live on forever. Everyone had a nickname..Bobby, Dawn, Ted, & Cheryl, his children, were known respectively as, Billy, Daylight, Keddy, and Mag..Dad had a special name for each of us. His famous, funny expressions..”I know you..you’re,,you”…And “see ya round town, you lucky devil” along with “you ready Roy?”, are a few of them and if you asked him..How ya feeling Dad?..He’d reply, “Mostly with my hands”. or “not bad for an old buzzard”..And “growing old ain’t for sissy’s.” He always referenced his brother, “you know what Wimpy would say?” Dad had many...many more, he was a quick witted man. A few dozen ears of corn, one hundred packs of “peeps” and a nice piece of coconut “discustard” pie will always be a reminder of Dad and some of his favorite things. A hot cup of coffee, in a hot cup along with a hot cake on a hot plate, started his day. The family would like to express sincere thanks for the compassionate care Samaritan Hospice gave at this most difficult time. He served in the Navy and was a member of the VFW and Elks. Relatives and friends are invited to share in Bob’s life celebration with visitation on Monday, March 23 from 6-8 PM at the Perinchief Chapels, 438 High St., Mount Holly followed by an Elks service at 8 PM and on Tuesday from 10-11 AM at the Funeral Home followed by a Service at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery in Lumberton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the VFW Post #2692, 199 South Ave., Mt. Holly, NJ 08060. Attn: Bldg.
