Robert A Rossell

Robert Alan Rossell, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2025. Born on December 29, 1931, in Mount Holly, New Jersey, to the late Richard I. Rossell and Marion Reed Rossell, Bob was the youngest of six children. He grew up on Lincoln Avenue in Mount Holly and attended F.W. Holbein School before graduating from Mount Holly High School in 1950, where he distinguished himself as an exceptional athlete. While at Mount Holly High School, Bob earned an impressive six varsity letters—three in baseball, two in basketball, and one in football. During his senior year, he served as captain of the basketball team and was the top scorer in the Burlington County League. That year, the basketball team won the Burlington County Group II League Championship. This athletic prowess later earned him a well-deserved induction into the Rancocas Valley Regional High School Athletic Hall of Fame. Following high school, Bob enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he served with distinction during the Korean War. He completed two tours in 1951 and 1953, rising to the rank of Staff Sergeant before honorably completing his military service. In 1955, Bob married Elaine Lawrence of Burlington, beginning a remarkable 70-year marriage. In 1959, Bob and Elaine welcomed their daughter, Donna. After his military service, Bob transitioned into a career in law enforcement, becoming one of the first officers of the newly formed Willingboro (formerly Levittown, NJ) Police Department in 1960. He served with dedication, rising to the rank of Chief of Police and serving in that role from 1968 to 1987, when he retired. After retirement, Bob pursued his passion for sports by opening a sports memorabilia shop with his wife, Elaine, at the Pennsauken Mart, which they ran for eight years. The couple later moved to Mount Laurel and then Southampton, New Jersey, before settling at the Masonic Village in Burlington. Throughout his life, Bob was an avid fan of Philadelphia sports teams, particularly the Phillies and Eagles, and took great joy in watching his grandsons, Terence Jr. and Shaun Flynn, compete in high school and college sports. Bob is survived by his devoted wife, Elaine; his daughter, Donna Flynn (Terence Flynn Sr.); his grandsons, Terence Flynn Jr. (Gina Doney) and Shaun Flynn (Victoria Saiia); and his great-grandsons, Graham, Owen, and Connor Flynn. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings. A private military funeral will be held at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery in North Hanover to honor Bob’s legacy of service.
