Robert W. Voorhees

Robert W. (Bob) Voorhees, 96, passed away in Mt. Holly, NJ on Sunday, December 18, 2016 with loving family by his side. His wife of almost 75 years, Eleanor (Phillips) Voorhees reminisced about how they met at a Valentine’s Day party in 1939 and married January 24, 1942. Robert was lovingly known to family as Rog. Given his penchant for snappy dressing (think red and green plaid polyester pants for Christmas dinner) and his talent on the dance floor (jitter bug), Eleanor could not resist his charm. He was born October 27, 1920, to parents William Voorhees and Marguerite Furman Voorhees and lived in Trenton, NJ with brother H. William (deceased). Bob attended Rider College (now University). He was drafted into the Army and served proudly overseas in the Philippines during WWII. Bob later retired as a Colonel in the Army National Guard after 30 years. His formal vocation was accounting and he worked in that capacity for RCA Moorestown, NJ for more than 33 years. Along with his wife Eleanor they raised six kids in Mt. Holly: sons Neil, Ricky (wife Phyllis), Mark, Kevin (wife Robin), predeceased by their only girl, daughter Lynda, and oldest son Philip (wife Suzi). In addition, he is also survived by former daughters and son in law Donna, Terri and David. Bob had many talents and hobbies, among them being an accomplished golfer, tennis player, nationally ranked duplicate bridge player, avid reader, ice cream connoisseur, lifelong Eagles fan, world traveler and investment advisor extraordinaire. His questionable traits include being a notorious snorer and an aggressive driver which may or may not have been passed along to his 16 grandchildren (Melissa, Tim & Emory, Dale, Paul, Erin & Carl, Will, Kristin, Natalie & Aric, Jessica & Mike, Erika, Brian and Leah) and 7 great-grandchildren (Teio, Avery, Skye, Gavin, Gabrielle, Ayla & Jane). Viewing will be Thursday, December 22 from 6:00-8:00pm at the Perinchief Chapels, 438 High St, Mount Holly, NJ 08060. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, December 23, at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Church 260 High St, Mt. Holly, NJ 08060. Interment will be immediately following at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery 350 Province Line Rd, Wrightstown, NJ 08562. In lieu of flowers and due to cemetery restrictions on flowers, donations can be made to St. Vincent De Paul Society, 1 Jones Rd, Medford, NJ 08055 or the Burlington County Animal Shelter, 35 Academy Dr, Westampton, NJ 08060.
