Russell F. McLaughlin Jr.

Russell F. McLaughin, Jr., of Pemberton Twp., passed away on Friday, June 3, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. He was 67. Born in Mt. Holly; the son of the late Russell F. McLaughlin, Sr. and Norma R. McLaughlin Fisher, and a graduate of Pemberton Twp. HS Class of ‘72. Russell took pride in raising his children and caring for many pets over the years on the same farm where he was raised. His life’s work was teaching his kids and caring for the Homestead Nursery, Inc. He was always generous with his time and resources, opening his workshop and sharing his creativity, craftsmanship and talent for fixing things with anyone who needed help with a project; family, friends, customers, hunters and fishermen were welcome at his nursery. He was known as Guy by those closest to him. He loved his wife deeply and was happiest cooking a meal, traveling to the shore, or going on a camping trip with Sue. His knowledge and love of plants extended even to vacations, when he would enjoy a horticultural tour. He was a member of the NJ Farm Bureau and NJ Nursery & Landscape Association, and served on the Burlington County Board of Agriculture and Pemberton Twp. Zoning Board of Adjustment. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Sue McLaughlin; children, Kristen (Jonathan) Wishart and Russell F. (Amanda) McLaughlin, III; Step-grandchildren, JJ Wishart and Ashley Wishart (Josh) and her children Xavier, Rosie, and Remi; siblings, Christina Poole, Karen Lucas (the late Johnny), Stephen (Mimi) Fisher, Virginia (Denny) Doyle, Lisa (Jim Wagoner) Fisher, and Scott (Rose Madson) McLaughlin. Also survived by his loving mother-in-law, Jane Cowperthwait, many loving and special brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins, and by his faithful employees Jose and Ruth Rodriguez. Russ was predeceased by his step-father, Maurice (Maury) B. Fisher, brother-in-law, John H. Lucas, and father-in-law, J. Budd Cowperthwait. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his visitation on Monday, June 13 from 5-7 PM at Perinchief Chapels, 438 High St., Mt. Holly. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 14th at 11 AM at First Presbyterian Church, 125 Garden St., Mt. Holly. The family requests guests to wear a face mask to the visitation Monday evening. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org), the Burlington County Animal Shelter (www.co.burlington.nj.us/168/Animal-Shelter), or any charity of your choice.
