Shirley McDonald

Shirley McDonald, of Edgewater Park, NJ, went home to be with The Lord on Wednesday June 30, 2010. She was born on July 21, 1928 in Philadelphia, Pa. Her parents were Mary and William Gilbert. After a valiant battle with pancreatic cancer she passed away gracefully at home surrounded by her loving family. Shirley met the love of her life, her husband at the Federal Reserve Bank in Philadelphia, PA., where they worked together and were married on Valentine’s Day 1953. She also worked for Edgewater Park Township as a crossing guard for ten years in order to spend her lunch hour with her children. It was during these formative years that she instilled the morals and values in her children which they carry with them today. She retired from the Edgewater Park School system where she drove a school bus for handicapped children for 13 years. Her infectious smile and ever present positive attitude were an inspiration to all who knew and loved her. She touched the lives of so many people. She is survived by her beloved husband of 57 years John J. McDonald Sr. and her six devoted children. John J, McDonald Jr. and his wife Maryann of Lumberton, NJ; Eileen Harry and her husband Jerry of Edgewater Park; Karen Eachus and her husband Todd of Newtown Square, PA; Mark McDonald and his wife Terri of Edgewater Park; Michael McDonald and his wife Catherine of Fort Collins, CO; Matthew McDonald and his wife Tracy of Palmyra, VA. Her loving grandchildren Katie and Eric Yarborough, Jonathan, Nicole, Shannon, Christine, Stacy, Colin and Ryan and her great grandchildren Brianna, Dominic and Ethan will also miss her greatly. Services will be held at Perinchief Chapels 438 High St. Mt. Holly, NJ on Saturday July 3, 2010. A viewing will be held starting at 10am with services at 12 noon. A private internment will be held at Beverly National Cemetery immediately following. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to The American Cancer Society designated for Pancreatic Cancer research. The family would also like to give great thanks to Gail Homer and Ann Marie Sheldon from The Hospice at Moorestown VNA. Their services were invaluable to the family.
