William M. Aaronson

William (Bill) M. Aaronson passed away peacefully on April 3, 2022 at home in Columbus, NJ with his loving family by his side. He was 86. If you knew Bill, you knew he could always light up the room with his larger-than-life smile, charisma and infectious laugh. Bill was an avid outdoorsman, fishing and hunting enthusiast, and he truly enjoyed the finer things in life. A staple of the community, Bill served both on the Township Committee and as Mayor of Columbus Township. Bill could never resist a good party or fine restaurant and always dressed to impress. He would do anything for a laugh and always enjoyed a good cocktail or two. Bill was born in Columbus and grew up as a dairy farmer, Locust Hill Farm, the Aaronson family farm. In addition to his career as a farmer, Bill also served as the Superintendent of Maintenance for the Burlington County Bridge Commission. Handsome, charismatic and the life of the party, Bill was a much-loved father, uncle, friend and fiancé. A lifelong Philadelphia sports fan, he cheered and suffered with his beloved Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles. Bill loved sports, especially baseball, as he nearly made it to the pros after high school when he was scouted by the Brooklyn Dodgers, but sadly had to end his baseball career after breaking his ankle sliding into second base. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, George and Edith Aaronson, and his siblings, Lois Meirs, Eunice Matheson and George Jr. (Bud). He leaves behind a loving family in his daughters Wendy Blau of Newtown, PA, and Sandra Albahary and her fiancé, Eric Scott Wilson, of Lawrenceville, NJ; fiancé, Margaret (Peggy) Stanley; his sister-in-law, Janet Aaronson; loving nieces and nephews, Barbara Fox and fiancé, Ron, Marcia Davies and husband, Scott, David Meirs and wife, Robin, Richard Meirs and wife, Sherri, Mary Ann Meirs, Phil and wife Lois, Suzanne Van Sciver and husband Mark, and many other beloved family members. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2022. Family and friends are welcome to visit beginning at 11:00 a.m. at the Wesley United Methodist Church, 24573 E. Main Street, Columbus, NJ 08022. Memorial service to follow at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, Bill’s family asks that donations be made to Alzheimer’s research at www.alznj.org. An avid outdoorsman and duck hunter, gifts can also be made to the wildlife conservation group www.ducks.org
