David Pagenkopf died January 4, 2021, at Samaritan Hospice, Virtua Memorial Hospital, Mount Holly, New Jersey. Dave was born in Oak Park, Illinois, on January 10, 1930. He attended Oak Park High School but graduated from Lake Forrest Academy, north of Chicago. He attended Brown University before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force in 1951. He was trained and served as a Radar Observer and Squadron Adjutant in the Eastern Air Defense Command during the Korean War. While stationed at McGuire AFB, Dave met and married a pretty young girl named Laura Ferrell from nearby Lumberton, N.J. Together they enjoyed a marriage lasting more than 66 years and were blessed with three beloved children, Linda (Bert) Seitz, John (Laura) Pagenkopf, and Andrew (Michele) Pagenkopf. Together they added seven grandchildren, Robin and Jeffery (Kristin) Seitz, Lee (Anna) Pagenkopf, Dale (Tim) Brown, Drew (Courtney) Pagenkopf, Bryn and Erin Pagenkopf and four great-grandchildren Lee’s sons, Collin and Reese, Dale’s daughter, Evelyn, and Drew’s son, Levi, to the family. Dave was predeceased by his parents Reinhart and Eleanor Pagenkopf, his brother, Robert, and his sisters, Eleanor Stratton and Jane Jonathan. Upon his discharge from the Air Force, Dave and Laura returned to Illinois, where Dave graduated from the University of Illinois with a B.S. degree in Management, majoring in Personnel Administration. He spent his entire career in Human Resources, the lasted 22 years with Stauffer Chemical Company. In 1960 the Pagenkopfs began worshipping at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hainesport, N.J. Dave served for several years on church council, evangelism ministry, cookie patrol, senior choir, and enjoyed Bible Study and time with his Men’s Prayer Breakfast friends. Most important in his life was his Lord and Savior, his family, and his church family. Followed closely by many rounds of golf with his friends, writing an evangelism column for the church’s monthly newsletter, which he later published as a book- CHIMES Ringing to God’s Glory and trying his best to help the Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles win. Celebration of Dave’s life will be privately at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 910 Marne Highway, Hainesport, N.J., and with burial in St. Paul’s cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church at the address shown above.
