Born June 24, 1929 in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Daniel and Catherine (McPartland) Diamond. He was raised in Lansdowne, PA and attended Lansdowne High School where he played football and was a center on the offensive line. Joe served in the US Air Force as a member of the Air Police during the Korean War and was stationed in Tokyo, Japan. When his service ended Joe joined his father and began working as a sales steward for Lit Brothers Department Store selling appliances. He remained employed there until they closed in 1977. Following that he continued to work as a salesman for various other companies until his retirement. Joe was an avid fan of Philadelphia sports teams, especially the Eagles and Phillies. He loved jazz music and Neil Diamond. He loved to golf and one of his proudest accomplishments was getting a hole in one. When his eyes failed him he enjoyed listening to sports radio and books on Audible. Each Sunday Joe would spend the morning phoning his family and friends. If asked how he was doing, he would respond with his slogan “Couldn’t be better!”. The Sunday morning phone call ritual will be missed by his children. Joe is survived by his children Joseph M. Diamond and his wife Carole, Patricia (Diamond) Headrick, Frank Diamond and his wife Terri, Janet (Diamond) Hollingshead and her husband Steve, Susan (Diamond) Saunders and her husband Gene, Daniel Diamond, Thomas Diamond and his wife Jennifer, his stepsons Mitchell Jacobs and David Jacobs, his brother Daniel Diamond and his wife Mary, his good friend Deborah Komins, as well and numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of life service will be held in the future at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Joseph’s memory to Samaritan Hospice, as well as the West Haven Veterans Hospital.
