August 25, 1941 - May 12, 2022
Julia McBride, of Lumberton, passed away May 12th, 2022. She was born to the late John and Florence Letts, Aug. 25, 1941 in Ontario, Canada. She attended Chatham High School, Ontario, Canada. She is preceded in death by her two brothers (John Letts 27 and Charles Letts 20). Julia overcame the sadness of losing her mother and two brothers in the span of one year to complications of chronic kidney disease and her father three years later. She met her future husband, William McBride, by chance at a restaurant in Honolulu in February 1969. After a long-distance courtship, they married in September in Canada and lived together in Lumberton until her passing. Julia is survived by her husband William of 52 years, sister Alice Scheibli (nee Letts) of Ontario, Canada, two children: William McBride (Stacy), of Westampton and Patricia Amelung (Ryan), of North Wales, Pennsylvania. She is also survived by three grandchildren David (24), Olivia (20), and Emily (13), and many nieces, nephews, and cousins in America, Canada, and the United Kingdom. A extremely selfless gift of a kidney from her lifelong friend Irene Smythe in 2001 extended her life and allowed her to witness her children grow into adults and experience the births and help raise her grandchildren. Besides being a loving mother, wife, and grandmother, over the years, she was a dental assistant, elementary school classroom aide, Avon lady where she won multiple sales awards, avid gardener, collector of souvenir tea spoons, mother to several fur babies, canner of fruits and vegetables, baker of cakes and cookies, and longtime member, Sunday school teacher, and altar guild member at Saint Andrew's Church. A viewing will be held on Sunday evening from 6-8 pm, 2022 at the Perinchief Chapels, 438 High St., Mount Holly with the Mass of Christian Burial at Saint Andrews Episcopal Church, 121 High St., Mount Holly on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at 10 am. The burial will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery, Lumberton. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the polycystic kidney disease foundation (pkdcure.org).
