David Wesley Smith

David Wesley Smith of Medford, son of the late John and Violet Smith, passed away suddenly on Saturday, January 28, 2023 in Leighton, PA. He was 81. Born in Philadelphia, Dave was a longtime area resident. Dave was a member of the Rancocas Valley Class of 1960 and attended Rider College. He worked in the field of Civil Engineering for Alaimo Associates in Mount Holly for over 35 years. Dave was very involved in the Mount Holly Community. He was a Volunteer Member of the Mount Holly Fire Department and served as Fire Chief from 1979-1980. He was a longtime member and Past Exalted Ruler at Mount Holly Elks (BPOE) #848. Dave served on the Mount Holly Zoning Board and Parks and Recreation Committee for several years. A devoted Christian, Dave was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Mount Holly and more recently, Fellowship Alliance Chapel in Medford. He enjoyed golf, traveling the world, skiing, trains, and church activities. Above all, Dave treasured his family and time spent with them. He loved going to all his children and grandchildren’s activities and sports. He was a number one fan cheering on the teams. He was always available to pick up a grandkid or run an errand for the family. He was loved so much by all and truly devoted. Dave was grateful to take his family to Hawaii to share in the magic of the island where he married the love of his life, Gwen. He will always be remembered for his love of the beautiful Hawaiian palm tree. He is survived by his beloved wife Gwen of over 59 years; 2 daughters: Lori Smith of Marlton and Kelli Smith Svensen (husband Erik) of Medford; 4 grandchildren: Megan Gunkel (Joe), Ryan Szelc (Erika), Bryce and Brayden Svensen; and 1 great-granddaughter Kinsley Gunkel. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 AM in the Fellowship Center at Fellowship Alliance, 199 Church Rd., Medford. Please use the Church Road entrance. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Friday evening from 4pm – 7pm at the Perinchief Chapels and on Saturday morning from 10am – 11am at FAC. An Elks service will be held on Friday at 7pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Dave’s memory may be made to Unite for Her at www.uniteforher.org which supports breast cancer patients or to a charity of your choice that has impacted your life.
