David Titus

David (Dave) Titus, loving and beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on Tuesday, November 14th from health complications. Born on April 15, 1955, in Camden, NJ, he was the middle child of Francis and Louise Titus, and brother to 5 siblings. Life was not always easy, but he persevered through it all. Dave lost his father at the age of 13, and being the oldest son he assumed the role of father figure. While a teenager, he dropped out of high school to join the Army towards the tail end of the Vietnam War. More than anything, Dave loved his family and friends. A self-taught guitarist, most people knew him for his time with The Chatsworth Destroyers. From local bars to recording studios, New Years’ Eve gigs at night to New Years’ Day shows the next day, he loved having a guitar in his hand, a microphone in front of his face, and his best friend and bassist, Albie Day, by his side. Dave and Albie met as young men, and from that time until his last day, from the birth of their children to the heartbreaking passing of Albie’s beloved Brenda, their brotherly love for each other was evident. They partied, performed, and supported each other for almost 50 years. He loved the beach, always making the drive to the shore with his dog Jack to meet up with his wife and “tiny dancer” Kathy, whom he married in 2003. Whether it was walks on the beach or dinner on the water, the memories they made together will last forever. There were also Mushinski family parties, where jokes and drinks would be shared in abundance. Dave would always tell his children that the most important thing in life is to give your best effort, and good things would tend to follow. He would always be sure to say how proud he was when one of his children told him about an accomplishment of theirs, but nothing made him as proud as the birth of his first and only grandchild, Violet Rae, whom he loved to play music for and take naps with. Dave is preceded in death by his father, Francis, his mother, Louise, his sister, Paula, his father-in-law, Victor, and brother-in-law, Peter. He is survived by so many - his wife, Kathleen (Kathy); his daughter Sophia (Esteban) and granddaughter, Violet, his son Dave, and their mother, Karen; his siblings Joanne Moses, Linda Titus, Richard Titus, and Michelle Titus; mother-in-law Margaret Mushinski and sisters- and brothers-in-law, Peggy (Lou), Susan (Malcom), Vicki (Nile), Michele, Andrea (Mike), Maureen (Damon), James (Trish), and Victor (Margie). “Now I’ve heard there was a secret chord That David played and it pleased the Lord” A Memorial Gathering will be held on Tuesday, November 28th from 6 pm - 8 pm at Perinchief Chapels, 438 High Street, Mount Holly, NJ 08060.
