Jacob Sauter, Jr. of Mount Holly died Wednesday November 24th, 2010 at the age pf 79 following a brief illness. Jake leaves behind his beloved sisters and brother-in-law: Mary Smith of Medford, NJ, Lillian Linton of Mount Holly and Sophie Berdick and her husband Bud of Southampton, PA. Uncle Jake also loved his four nieces and nephews: Lisa(Doug) Wheelin, Andrea (Vincent) Santangelo, Terri (John) Sackett and Sandy (Jack) Collins. He will be missed by eight great nieces and nephews, two great, great nieces, many cousins, neighbors and friends. Jake was born in the Bridesburg section of Philadelphia, the son of the late Jacob and Lillian Fane Sauter and moved to Mount Holly at the age of two during the great depression. He loved playing with his boyhood friends and swimming in the Rancocas Creek behind his home. He attended the Mount Holly Schools and enjoyed hunting, fishing traveling and working in the garden. In later years, he loved planting trees, irises and lilies by his home. Being quite gregarious, and wanting to help others, he was a member of Mount Holly Lodge #737 LOOM and the Oneida Boat Club in Burlington. Mr. Sauter was drafted into the Army in 1952 and obtained the rank of Corporal. He fought in the Korean War during the Battle of Pork Chop Hill. In May of 1953 he was wounded and received the Purple Heart Medal. After his discharge in 1954, he was active assisting the needs of Veterans the rest of his life. He was Post Commander of Mount Holly VFW #2692, a lifelong member of American Legion Post #294 in Pemberton, and past trustee of Westampton AMVATS Post #79. Later in his life he enjoyed military reunions and became an officer of the 7th Infantry Division Assoc. and the 17th Infantry Regiment. He loved history and sharing stories with all who would listen. After his separation from the army, he was employed by GLF-Agway in Bordentown for 38 years and after retiring from there, he worked for the State of New Jersey at Brig. General William Doyle Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery. He took pride in working hard his entire life and relished the friends he made along the way. Funeral Services and interment will be private. There will be no calling hours. Contributions in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123 or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
