Jean E. West

Jean Eileen West, 87, of Edgewater Park, New Jersey passed on Sunday, January 7th, 2018. She was born December 4th, 1930 in Wheeling, West Virginia to Andrew and Mildred Basista. She was the loving and devoted wife of G. Richard West, who predeceased her in 1982. She is survived by her two sons, Michael (Rebecca) of Wilton, New York, and Patrick (Ginia) of Wake Forest, North Carolina. She also had two children who passed in childbirth, Richard Lee, and William Andrew. She adored her grandchildren Jana, Antonio, Andrew, Jennifer, Julie, Brian, Kathryn and Theresa; great grandchildren Saoirse, Asher, Lilly and Penny; numerous nieces and nephews, and the rest of her family and friends. Jean was a long time resident of Edgewater Park. She attended Toronto High School in Ohio and graduated from Ohio University with a B.S. in Journalism. She worked previously at the Philadelphia Inquirer and Courier Post as a reporter, and later for three decades as a reporter, edition editor and editor for the Accent weekly magazine for the Burlington County Times. She loved dearly her family and was an excellent swimmer earlier in life, enjoyed the beach and ocean, bowling, golf, and played with great friends on three different bridge groups up until her recent illness. She also liked the Borgata in Atlantic City, most sports but particularly college and pro football, and especially the Eagles. She traveled widely. She enjoyed Alaska by ship and train, taking a donkey with her reluctant husband down the Grand Canyon, riding a camel in Egypt, a cruise on the Queen Elizabeth to England, and exploring Greece, Italy, Spain, France, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Israel. Her service will be held at the Perinchief Chapels, 438 High St., Mt. Holly on Saturday, January 13, 2018 with visiting hours from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m., with a brief memorial service celebrating her life at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association [P.O. Box 15829, Arlington, VA 22215], or your preferred charity. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the physicians, nurses, staff, health care providers and many friends who cared for Jean.
