Malcolm T Bodiford

Malcolm was born on May 4, 1942 to Anna Chastkewicz and John Bodiford in Brooklyn, New York. He was the fourth of five children. Malcolm always knew the value of hard work. At a young age he began selling newspapers downtown Brooklyn in the area of what is now known as Atlantic Terminal. He graduated from Brooklyn Automotive High School and then enlisted in the United States Army. Malcolm served his country, completed marksmanship training and became a sharp shooter. Malcolm was born and raised in Brooklyn. After being honorably discharged from the United States Army, he returned to his hometown where he began an apprenticeship as a butcher at the Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company, also known as A&P. It was there that Malcolm met the love of his life and wife of 51 years, Samuela. Malcolm and Samuela were married and had four children: Damaris Wilkins, Malcolm Bodiford Jr., Elizabeth Barrow and Julie Bodiford. In 1970, Malcolm became employed with the New York City Department of Sanitation. After many years of laboring on the streets of Brooklyn he was able to retire in January 1995. He moved to New Jersey in 2003 where he discovered the suburban life. He was fortunate enough to enjoy his retirement for 21 years. Malcolm was a very organized, meticulous and punctual person. He didn't believe in sitting around and wasting time. Malcolm valued family time and took seriously the responsibility of being a provider. He was a devoted husband and loving father. He always reminded everyone to "take care of your mother/grandmother." He had 8 grandchildren who he loved dearly. He was so proud of them and always encouraged them to work hard and be productive. Malcolm was a very giving individual and was always willing to help out those in need. He was compassionate towards animals and often fed the neighborhood squirrels, birds and strays. There were several occasions when he brought home a stray or two! Malcolm is survived by his wife Samuela; children Damaris, Malcolm, Elizabeth and Julie; grandchildren Thelma, Kristopher, Cameron, Kayla, Kristina, David, Malcolm, and Samantha; son-in-law Winston; daughter-in-law Elizabeth, and a host of family and friends.
