Richard Murphy McCarron

Richard “Dick” Murphy McCarron 79, of Jobstown, NJ, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 9, 2016, at his home in Jobstown, NJ, surrounded by his loving Family, and with the same beautiful smile he always showed the world. Born in Trenton, New Jersey, Dick was a graduate of Trenton Catholic High School. Dick made friends easily and he had many through life. He was always an excellent listener, and one who took others’ problems to heart until he could offer some kind of solution or assistance. People saw this honest quality in him as early as high school, which explains his being elected president of his class for 4 years. He continued his education graduating in 1954 from Mount St. Mary's University, in Emmitsburg, Maryland, where he was a member of the school's baseball team, President of his senior class, appeared in play productions and was a very proud alumnus of the University. Dick was employed by The State of New Jersey, Department of Corrections, for close to 30 years before his retirement. Dick and his wife owned the La Salute Bar, later known as McCarron's Tavern, in Trenton for many years. He was a devoted member of Sacred Heart Church in Mount Holly where he attended Mass at 7 am daily for nearly 30 years. He was also a member of the Hibernians Club and the National Guard. Son of the late Eugene and Dorothy (Cody) McCarron, he was predeceased by his brothers Eugene J. McCarron and William Cody McCarron. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Patricia T. (Seifritz) McCarron, a sister & brother-in-law: Dorothy and Charles Stearle, daughters and sons- in-laws: Cheryl and Jeff Petrow, Jacquelyn and George Massina, Kelly McCarron-Schwing and William Schwing; Son and daughter in-law: Richard E. and Patricia McCarron. Dick had several Grand Children: Jonathan Petrow, Jenna Petrow, Jillian Conti, Patricia Conti, Kaleigh McCarron, and Owen McCarron. A Great Grand daughter: Juliana Petrow; and many neices and nephews. He is also survived by several life long friends including Tom Humphrey, Pat McGee, Fred Borne, Tom Jarzyk, Dr. Michael Nitoli and Dr. James Cardelia. Dick also had many dear friends from the Sacred Heart church including Anne & George Kingston, Phil & Elaine Ryan, and Sandy Roth, to name a few. Dick enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, family and friends. Dick was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing, hunting, golf, bird watching, barbecuing and spending time at the beach. And Dad LOVED animals. Prior to his illness, Dick & Pat spent many years during the winter months in Belle Air Beach, FL, at the home of dear friends Peter & Caroline van Houten who so graciously welcomed them to stay in their beautiful home. Dad was also a lover of music and comedies and held various roles in school productions at both Trenton Catholic and Mt. Saint Mary’s. Friends are invited to visit with the Family on Tuesday, February 16, from 9:30 am to 10:30 am at Sacred Heart Church, 260 High Street, Mount Holly, NJ. At 10:30 am at the Church there will be a Catholic Mass of Christian Burial and Interment will follow at the Sacred Heart Cemetery. There will be a luncheon to follow and all are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, Wounded Warriors, North Shore Animal League or a charity of your liking.
