Ruth Corbett

Ruth Corbett, loving wife of Louis J. Corbett for 63 years, passed away peacefully in her home in Medford, New Jersey on January 11th, with her husband Louis by her side. Born in Paterson, NJ on August 16, 1930, Ruth met her future husband in high school and their fierce teenage rivalry was family legend, however their lifelong kindness and devotion to one another as well as unwavering faith are what all who knew Ruth will remember most. Ruth married her high school sweetheart Louis in 1953 after his graduation from Kings Point. She was a devoted and loving mother of six children, known for cheering her sons on during sporting events, James of Elmer, NJ (Cheryl Webb Corbett), Patricia Corbett Romano, (deceased), Maryanne Corbett Gorman of Moorestown, NJ (Robert L. Gorman), Joseph of Washington DC, Joan Corbett Neuber of West Palm Beach, FL, and Michael (Charline Shan Corbett) and loving mother-in-law of Lyle Manheimer of Tabernacle, NJ and Charlotte Garvey of Washington DC. Ruth was by her own admission happiest when she was with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, inciting mischievous behavior. Her laughter, witty sense of humor, practical jokes and many antics earned her the nickname “Freshie” from her clan of 16 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. She enjoyed countless vacations at the beach with all of her family members well into her 80’s. Ruth spent her earlier mothering years as an avid member of the Sacred Heart Mount Holly PTA, Chairperson of countless Sacred Heart PTA and other Church fund and fun-raising events such as Fashion Shows, Calendar Party events and New Year’s and Saint Patrick’s Day dances. Later in life, she earned her Real Estate license while living in Mount Holly, and eventually became a busy and successful Realtor in the Medford area with Hoopes Alloway, Better Homes and Gardens, Prudential and Fox and Lazo for over 20 years. She enjoyed teaching first graders as a Religious Education instructor at Saint Mary of the Lakes in Medford, and was an active weekly volunteer with the Saint Vincent de Paul Society of Medford NJ and the Birchwood Lakes community where she made many life-long friends and served as editor of the Birch Log. Relatives and family friends are invited to attend her viewing on Monday, January 16, 2017 at Perinchief Chapels on High Street in Mount Holly, NJ from 6pm to 8pm. Friends and family are also invited to participate in a Funeral Mass which will be held on Tuesday morning January 17, 11:00am at Sacred Heart Church on High Street in Mount Holly. Please no flowers, contributions can be made to Saint Vincent de Paul. Burial is private.
